Perhaps you sent a lovely email or a card, Or sat quietly in a chair.

Perhaps you brought flowers or food to nourish our souls, If so, we saw them there.

Perhaps you paid a Shiva call, If so, we saw you there.

Perhaps you spoke the kindest words, As anyone could say.

Perhaps you made a donation, If so, we know you care.

Perhaps you were not there at all, Just thought of us that day.

Whatever you did to console our hearts, We thank you so very much whatever the part.

Auntie Doris

You can call her what you like - but for me and my sister Naomi she was just Auntie Doris - the very dear friend of my parents Bertha and Sam Pleeth.[ When we were small it was customary to call the close friends of ones parents 'uncle' or 'auntie']
We really knew her all our lives, starting out with visits to Westward Ho! during WW2.
But really we got to know her here in Israel when she would frequently spend time with our parents, and later when she would pay her annual visits to Tel Aviv. She would phone me to say that she had arrived, and we would make a date to meet. And those meetings were just great. She was getting old and a little stiff, but her mind was that of a young woman, and the hours I would spend with her would pass without noticing the time. The stories of our families, philosophy of life, and even politics just flew from her conversations. I just loved those times and was only sorry that they were not more frequent!
Once we managed to have a grand teaparty with lots of her children and ours at the Dan hotel. And she was 89 and sitting at the head of the table like a queen!
Just last year I had a phone call from her wishing me Shana Tova. How sad that there will not be another.
Love to all
Felicia
